Presidents Message

Here we go with a brand new season for the Chatham Township Art League.  For the first time in our history we have opened our membership to include artists from Chatham Borough.  We are happy to say that 10 residents have accepted our offer.  I think this will prove to be a wonderful new introduction of people and art to our already high-quality offerings in our exhibits.  I want to thank Frank McDonough for putting the wheels in motion for this event before he retired as president.

With the new season, comes a new board – some old and some new.  I thank all those who are staying on as well as those taking on new responsibilities. Celeste Fondaco will be taking over the chair of Newsletter and Ann Frommer, one of the new Borough members, will be our new secretary.  And to those leaving the board, Linda Fasold and Frank McDonough, thanks for all your hard work and contributions in the past.

The Fall exhibit has just gone up and we think it is one of the biggest and best exhibits yet!  Please make a point of getting out to see it.

Yolanda Fundora

Yolanda has been very busy.

A book with her illustrations will be released call “My Brain Won’t Flat Away/Mi cerebro no va a salir flotando”, hardcover and she’s working on a second one also.  If you type in her name at www. Amazon.com you can see the cover for both of the books.

She has another book due out in September, Caribbean Journey from A to Y”.  Where is the Z?….you’ll have to read it to find out.  She didn’t illustrate this book, but she designed it and every page uses a different one of her textile designs.

The following books due out in September have cover illustrations by Yolanda:

“Stories of Little Women and Grown-up Girls” (dustjacket design) by Sonia Rivera-Valdez and Emily Maguire

“Memory Tracks: Fragments from Prison “ by Margarita Drago and Margaret Ballantyne (paperback—Sept 28, 2007).

“So I Won’t Forget” by Paquita Suarez Coalla and Emily Maguire (paperback—Sept 24, 2007)

Four members participated in the Senior Art Show  from June 7th through August 10 in the Chase Room at the Madison Public Library.  They are:

Celeste Fondaco, Ed Schuh, Pam Gosner and Rosemary Schwartz.  The show is co-sponsored by the Madfison Senior Center and The Madison Public Library.

A special note:

Jo Powers has taken a leave of absence from the board in order to tend to some personal things at home.  Mark is doing much better after undergoing extensive medical testing.  Jo will be busy getting her home back in order and taking a well deserved rest from a hectic summer.

A note from Jo and Mark appears below.

 Dear Friends,

Mark and I are so grateful to all of you for the cards and phone calls expressing your concern and best wishes. Adversity seems less adverse when others care!

Thank you, too, for the tower of fruits from CTAL that appeared on our front porch. There were so many apples, I made an apple pie! The giant pineapple was truly marvelous. We are lucky to be a part of such a familial group.

With many thanks and much love, Mark & Jo

We are hoping that someone will step forward to be the chair of the “Artist of the Season “ and “Showcase Artist”

The task would be to contact individuals in the group who might be interested in displaying 2 pieces of their work in the hallway. The other venue for display is the showcase which is designed for small works of art or crafts. They can be displayed for a period of a month or  up to a quarter.  The artwork, in all cases  may be offered for sale.

If you are interested in the chairmanship or if you would like to display your work, please contact Gail Logan  at :

loganclan@patmedia.net

or  973-635-5036

Gail is also our publicity chair.  She needs jpg files of your work to have on hand for newspaper articles.

Next board meeting is October 11th, 10am at the Township Municipal Building. Members are welcome to join us.

The new directory will be coming out soon.  Please send any changes and /or additions to the editor.
