BEVERLY WHITE

Chatham NJ

To me, art is an integral part of my life.  I am involved with painting, embroidery, cooking and arts & crafts to enhance the quality of my life.  Art and visiting museums in New York and Europe have always been favorite pastimes.

My love of embroidery was inherited from my mother who taught me how to sew at the tender age of eight.  In the past, I sewed my own clothes and taught international cooking at a community college in New York.

I have studied art appreciation at Mills College of Education, NY City, where I earned a degree in Early Childhood Education.  In 1981 I earned a masters degree in Special Education from Aldelphia University, Garden City, New York.  I am presently teaching first grade in private school.  When children express themselves by writing stories, I find that the experience is enhanced by having them use colorful illustrations to augment those stories.

I moved to Chatham township in 1997 after living in Florham Park for sixteen years.  I joined the Chatham Township Art League where I met sensitive people with whom I can share common interests.  At the same time, I began studying Chinese Brush Painting with Shorley Pu Wills at the New Jersey Center for Visual Arts.  It is exciting to paint with watercolors on Chinese rice paper and on silk fabric.

My paintings are exhibited at :The New Jersey Center for Visual Arts, The Library of the Chathams with the Sumi-e’Society, The Chatham Township Gallery with the Chatham Township Art League, including exhibiting as “artist of the month” in 2001.
